World Cancer Day 2022

Antaral – Pause and be the Change, a prominent society of students at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), School of Commerce, to commemorate World Cancer Day, hosted a webinar on February 4, 2022. The webinar aimed to offer awareness about cancer. Dr. Prasad Narayanan, an oncologist, MBBS, MD, DM and a senior consultant and Director of Medical Oncology joined the event as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Anjali Motwani commenced the webinar and introduced Dr. Prasad Narayanan. Dr. Prasad Narayanan began the session by emphasising the importance of bridging the gap between patients seeking medical attention and receiving treatment. He provided a clear understanding of what cancer is versus what we believe it to be. By mentioning the causes of cancer, he also stated that cancer incidence in India is 1.5 to 2 times higher than previously reported.

Radiation therapy and surgery, chemotherapy, combination therapy, and a variety of other new cancer-curing methods were discussed during the webinar. Dr. Prasad Narayanan said, “Despite the fact that there are various methods for curing the disease, the emphasis is always on the person who seeks treatment at an early stage, because survival rates decrease as the disease gets worse.”

He emphasised on the points that cancer can be cured only if;

  1. It is diagnosed properly
  2. It is treated optimally
  3. The patient adheres to the protocols
  4. The dose’s intensity and density are maintained

The webinar was attended more than 130 participants. The participants were extremely enthusiastic and asked numerous questions, which Dr. Prasad Narayanan patiently answered. Overall, the webinar's goal was successful in raising awareness about cancer.
