Knowledge of the industrial environment is crucial for students to become successful professionals. The industrial environment has undergone a rapid transformation as a result of the increased frequency of innovation, which has accelerated the pace at which it is being updated and improved. Academic institutions like JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) emphasise experiential learning through industrial tours, workshops, and seminars in response to this transition in various industries. The School of Commerce of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) recently took some of its Bachelor of Management Studies students pursuing Tourism and Hospitality Management to Taj West End Hotel, Bengaluru. The visit took place with nine students who were accompanied by Dr. G Saravana Kumar, Professor - BMS - THM at the School of Commerce, on the 10th of November 2022. The visit intended to make students familiar with the operations of different departments in a five-star hotel.
When the students arrived at the hotel, Mr. Rajasvi Madan, L&D Manager of Taj West End, greeted them and gave them a general overview of the establishment. He revealed that the 20-acre property had 117 rooms, a garden, and exotic trees. He said that the colonial-style building is still maintained as it is without any alteration in the structure. He then went on to show students the ballrooms, Machaan (coffee shop), Masala Café (Indian-style restaurant), Blue Ginger (Vietnamese-style restaurant), open lawn party areas, swimming pools, and prestigious TATA Suite. The students even witnessed the grand history of the hotel through old pictures of the Taj West on the Wall of Heritage. He told 450 staff members are working in the hotel, which is quite high as the property is spread-out and every room service order is carried by hand because no trolley can be used on the ground as it is uneven.
He told the kids that discipline and grooming are two crucial components of this field and that if they are focused and diligent, they may succeed and gain a lot of respect in the field. He expressed his best wishes for the students' future endeavours. In addition to being a great learning opportunity, the visit to the hotel gave students a chance to know the demands of the industry.
