Corporate Finance Integrated with Certified Public Accountant (US CPA) + Enrolled Agent (US EA)

Eligibility

The minimum qualification required to apply is a pass in the 10+2 examination in Science or Commerce from PUC / ISC / CBSE or an equivalent board. A course recognised as equivalent thereto by the University.

Overview

The Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree programme in US CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is the premier accounting credential in the United States, globally recognised and prized by finance professionals. The rules for CPA licences are laid down by each state board of accountancy, which issues licenses in 55 states. It's usually regarded as the black belt of accounting and it symbolises confidence and professional behavior in business.

In collaboration with the AICPA and Miles Education, the US CPA is integrated into B. Com (Hons) – Corporate Finance. The programme covers key competencies in the first 5 semesters:

  • Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR): Focuses on financial accounting and reporting frameworks for various entities.
  • Auditing and Attestation (AUD): Covers skills needed for audits, attestation engagements, and financial reviews.
  • Business Environment and Concepts (BEC): Encompasses audit, attest, accounting, and review services, along with financial reporting and tax preparation.
  • Regulation (REG): Includes knowledge on US federal taxation, ethics, and professional responsibilities related to tax practice, and US business laws.

The students are well prepared to become international financial and accounting professionals once these competencies have been completed in Semester 6. Graduates can then pursue the US CPA professional qualification exam, which, unlike many non-US qualifications, complements university education with its focus on skill gaps, resulting in only four exams. Furthermore, students will acquire a thorough understanding of Financial Principles through the B.Com honours in Accounting and Finance course to enhance their capacity for challenges on the job market.

Note: US CPA requires a university degree, and the professional exam complements the education by addressing specific skill gaps, leading to a more focused and streamlined qualification with fewer exams compared to non-US counterparts.

In its fourth year, the B. Com Honours course offers specialised knowledge and skills in a given field to enhance professional competencies. The programme is focused on research, analytics and technologies in the field to build theory and practical understanding. It promotes a business mindset, nurtures practical skills and gives students an edge in the dynamic job market.
