The long-awaited investiture ceremony for Nucleus, the science forum and Caarma, the eco club of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) - School of Sciences, was organised on 14th September 2022. The event started with Mr. Upendra Sharma, the convener, introducing the forum and its core committee members. Dr. Altaf Ali and Dr. Sandeep Chawan handed out badges to all members of the core committee. The event was followed by an interesting talk on Vertical Gardening and Landscaping by Mr. Mathews P. Raj, Assistant Professor - Department of Life Sciences.
Mr. Mathew briefed the audience about landscape and its importance. He highlighted important aspects of landscaping and how the mindset of the person designing the landscape determines its features. In a brief presentation, he showcased different types of natural and manmade landscapes, terrariums, and aquariums, and the various elements utilised in the landscape. The historical, social, economic, and ecological significance of landscaping and its maintenance was demonstrated with examples and case studies. The discussion placed a strong emphasis on the relationship between preserving naturally formed landscapes and maintaining the ecological balance.
Later, the speaker gave a few examples of endemic flora and fauna and explained their roles in enhancing and blending with surroundings to form natural landscapes and maintain the ecological balance. Many students from various departments attended the informative session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the speaker.
